KEB drives add one-cable motor connection option

KEB America Inc is part of the KEB Group and is also the North American Provider of industrial automation solutions, which announced that S6 servo drives and F6 variable frequency drives are available as a One Cable Technology system solution. OCT transmits power to encode signals through the single motor cable and also removes the need for a separate encoder cable, simplifying the connection occurring between the drive and motor.

The OCT solution pairs KEB S6 and F6 drives with matching servo motors from the TA and Dynamic Line series, along with OCT motor cables available in lengths up to 50 meters. These components form a drive, inverter, motor, encoder, and cable package.

The KEB One Cable Technology system solution includes S6 servo drives from 0.75 kW to 7.5 kW in housings 2 and 4, and F6 VFDs from 2.2 kW to 37 kW in housings 2 and 3. Both are equipped with the PRO control board and Safety Module 5. The system also includes TA series servo motors from TA1 through TA6 with M23 and M40 connectors and EN12 multiturn encoders, as well as DL3 servo motors with M15 and M23 connectors. OCT motor cables are available in 1.5 mm², 2.5 mm², and 4.0 mm² cross-sections, with M15, M23, and M40 motor connectors.

Benefits for manufacturers

  • Simplified wiring: Power and encoder signals travel over a single motor cable, reducing the number of connections needed on the motor and in the control cabinet.
  • Smaller footprint and faster installation: Fewer cables can reduce routing, terminating, and troubleshooting time. It also frees up space in the control cabinet and on the machine.
  • Machine availability: Fewer plug connections can reduce potential points of failure. Using one motor cable instead of separate power and encoder cables reduces drag chain length and potential cabling failure points.
  • Total cost of ownership: Reduced material requirements, simplified inventory management, and faster service and troubleshooting can support efficiency across the machine build.

The OCT system solution for KEB’s S6 and F6 drives is available for specification.
