PROCOMER highlights Costa Rica as a strategic destination for the semiconductor industry at SEMICON West

PROCOMER is showcasing Costa Rica’s potential as a key destination for semiconductor investment at SEMICON West 2026. As part of its continued initiative to attract global investment and strengthen the country’s position in the semiconductor sector, Costa Rica is participating in the event, held October 13–15 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. The exhibition brings together over 35,000 participants and around 850 exhibitors, including semiconductor manufacturers, technology innovators, engineering specialists, researchers, policymakers, and business executives from across the industry.

For the third consecutive year, the Trade and Investment Promotion Agency of Costa Rica (PROCOMER) is representing the country at this international event. The agency aims to strengthen relationships with industry leaders, identify new foreign direct investment (FDI) opportunities, and showcase Costa Rica’s capabilities in semiconductor design, assembly, testing, and advanced packaging.

“In an industry with long investment cycles and highly specialized decision-making, trust and a sustained presence are essential. Since 2024, SEMICON West has allowed us to engage directly with global industry players and demonstrate, year after year, that Costa Rica can meet their needs with skilled talent, technical capabilities and a strong ecosystem. This year, in addition to showcasing the country’s capabilities and business climate, we are highlighting how we are developing the talent this industry needs to keep growing,”

-Mónica Umaña, PROCOMER’s Foreign Direct Investment Attraction Manager

As part of the event’s official program, PROCOMER delivered a presentation titled “The Talent Strategy: How Costa Rica Is Driving Growth in the Semiconductor Industry.”

-Carolina Sánchez, Director of PROCOMER’s Investment Promotion Office in Silicon Valley

The presentation addressed the shortage of specialized workers as one of the main challenges to the industry’s global growth. It also outlined Costa Rica’s efforts to expand the pool of qualified talent through training incentives, internship programs, and strategic partnerships with internationally recognized institutions, including Arizona State University and Purdue University.

The Costa Rican delegation includes PROCOMER and eight companies listed in the agency’s FDI Supplier Directory. They provide specialized services in areas such as legal and tax advisory, real estate and banking, along with other solutions that help international companies establish and grow operations in Costa Rica.

Through this participation, PROCOMER and Costa Rica’s investment ecosystem are building on the strategy launched at SEMICON West 2024. The goal is to show that Costa Rica has the talent, suppliers, and business climate to support investors from the establishment through the expansion of their operations, attract new investment, and help the semiconductor industry grow.
