Siemens Names Rainer Brehm to Lead New Automation Business

Siemens has recently appointed Rainer as President of its new Automation business. The company plans to bring automation activities within one organization from 1st October 2026. The plan comes as part of Siemens’ ONE Tech Company strategy. Along with it, Siemens helps industrial customers to build flexible, productive, and resilient manufacturing operations. The company aims to integrate its four existing business units, such as customer services, factory automation, motion control, and process automation, within one organization called Automation.

Mr Brehm will take charge of the new organization on October 1 and will report to Cedrik Neike, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO of Digital Industries. The new structure is designed to bring automation technologies and capabilities closer together as manufacturers increasingly adopt software, artificial intelligence and connected production systems. Siemens said the combined organization will help provide customers with more integrated solutions across their manufacturing operations.

“The future of industry lies at the intersection of automation, software and AI.”

He added that the new Automation organization would support faster innovation, greater scalability and more tailored customer solutions. Mr Brehm brings extensive experience in industrial automation and technology to his new position. In his current role as Chief Operating Officer for the automation business and Chief Technology Officer at Siemens Digital Industries, he has been responsible for the strategic development of the company’s automation portfolio. His work has included technologies such as software-defined automation and Industrial AI. Before taking his current position, Brehm served as CEO of Siemens’ Factory Automation business unit.

Mr Brehm said artificial intelligence is changing the way industries operate and making strong automation capabilities increasingly important for manufacturers. He said he would work with Siemens teams worldwide to strengthen the company’s position in automation and advance AI-enabled autonomous production. The focus will be on helping industrial customers improve flexibility, productivity and competitiveness.

The creation of a single Automation organization comes as manufacturers seek to modernize production while responding to changing demand, labour shortages and the need for more efficient operations. Siemens is combining its automation expertise to support customers across different stages of industrial production.

The company expects the unified organization to strengthen cooperation between its automation businesses and accelerate the development of technologies that combine industrial hardware, software and artificial intelligence. With Brehm leading the new business, Siemens aims to build on its existing automation portfolio and expand its role as industries move towards more connected and intelligent production environments.
