Semtech Corporation, a provider of high-performance semiconductors for AI data center networking and intelligent, connected IoT devices, has announced TDS2621LP, the latest addition to its SurgeSwitch® family. The new device is designed for 24 V DC power buses used in industrial robotics, collaborative robots (cobots), and automated manufacturing.
TDS2621LP provides near-constant clamping voltage, IEC 61000-4-5 surge compliance, and a 1.6 mm² footprint. It is designed to replace bulkier conventional industrial packaged protection devices, helping address space and protection requirements in compact robotic and automated systems.
As robotic systems become smaller and operate closer to people on the factory floor, safety-critical I/O modules are exposed to more challenging electrostatic discharge (ESD) and surge conditions. Inductive loads, including servo motors, electromagnetic brakes, and pneumatic solenoids, can switch on and off thousands of times per shift, generating high-energy transients directly on the 24 V DC bus that supplies sensitive control circuitry.
Conventional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diodes can experience a rise in clamping voltage with peak pulse current and changes across the industrial temperature range. This can make protection margins less predictable and require designers to over-specify downstream components.
“As robots and cobots pack more electronics into smaller spaces, critical margin for protection error shrinks while transient energy on the 24 V bus grows. TDS2621LP solves density and footprint issues with near-constant clamping voltage at full pulse current, offering robotics system designers predictable headroom,” said Tamir Reshef, vice president of marketing and applications, analog and mixed signal products group at Semtech.
Built on Semtech’s SurgeSwitch architecture, TDS2621LP uses a surge-rated FET that operates as a precision voltage-controlled switch, moving beyond the conventional PN-junction approach. Unlike conventional TVS diodes, SurgeSwitch provides a uniform clamping voltage of 35 V at 24 A (8/20 μs), with a dynamic resistance of 32 mΩ across the full pulse current range.
The device is targeted at cobot joint electronics and controller boards, industrial robot input line protection, autonomous mobile robot (AMR) and automated guided vehicle (AGV) power buses, PLC I/O modules, fieldbus interfaces including PROFIBUS, EtherCAT and IO-Link, distributed control cabinets, 24 V actuator and solenoid valve driver boards in factory automation, industrial sensor power lines, smart sensor nodes, USB Type-C industrial VBUS power lines, and IoT edge devices operating on 24 V DC infrastructure.
TDS2621LP has a maximum working voltage of 26.4 V, matched to the IEC upper tolerance band for 24 V DC systems. It supports a peak pulse current of 24 A (tp = 8/20 μs) per IEC 61000-4-5 and has a maximum clamping voltage of 35 V at 24 A. The device comes in a DFN 1.6 mm² footprint, 2-Lead package.
TDS2621LP is available in production quantities and is supplied in 7-inch tape-and-reel packaging with 3,000 units per reel. Samples and evaluation support are available through Semtech’s authorized distribution partners and for direct purchase on semtech.com. Design-in support, application notes, and reference layout guidance are also available for the product.
Semtech will showcase TDS2621LP and its portfolio at Booth #H3.G11 during Electronica India 2026, taking place September 16–18 in Bengaluru, India, where customers and partners can meet the company’s technical experts.
